Turn up the heat ... if only we could!

Our beautiful Parish Church has served the community here for almost 160 years.  Many baptisms, marriages and funerals and Sunday services taking place within the Church building. It is a base from which pastoral care is administered by our Parish priest and his team. We wish for all this to continue and hope and pray that all in the village of Southwater join us in that desire.  Financially the Church exists from the giving of its parishioners – it does not receive funding from councils or any other organisations apart from an occasional grant for a specific purpose.

We recently received the devastating news that the church boiler and heating system needs to be replaced. It is 31 years old and even when if worked was very inefficient.  Despite all the care and maintenance that we have carried out, the news did not come as a surprise to us.  The estimated cost of it did.

Rev Godfrey surveys the problem in the boiler roomThe expected cost is £30,000. This includes the cost of a new heating system, specialist consultants’ and architects’ fees (the Church is a grade 2 listed building) and the renewal and replacing of the oil tank which is does not meet latest standards for fire safety. There is a massive water leak underneath the Church and this is emanating from the existing heating system. It is imperative that we renew the system this year.  We need to raise enough money to cover the cost as soon as possible.

This is a plea to the whole village to help maintain its Parish Church, see our Brochure here

On Saturday April 2nd we had a very enjoyable and very successful Giving Day .  The Church was open all day and so many people came to the Church on that day to give.  The poster competiton was enjoyed by children and adults alike.
